Gary will be looking for his third-straight Olympic 50-meter freestyle gold medal this summer in Beijing. This three-time Olympian and 10-time Olympic medalist won his second 50m free Olympic title at the 2004 Athens Games, where at 29 he became the oldest male in 80 years to win gold for the U.S. team. His third Olympic appearance also made history in another way as it made Gary Hall Sr. and Jr. the first father/son duo to compete in three Olympic Games.

Gary uses his celebrity status to serve as a powerful advocate for diabetes awareness, education and funding. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999 and was told by doctors that he would never again be able to compete at the same level that saw him win four medals, including two gold, at the 1996 Olympics.

Gary proved everyone wrong in a big way, winning his first individual gold by capturing the 50m free at the 2000 Olympics and doing it again in 2004. Gary makes countless appearances each year sharing his message of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. He has also testified in front of Congress advocating for more funding for diabetes research.
