hey ghj
I think your site is really great...brilliant boost for swimming in general. Just have one thing to point out to you though...or rather one word to mention...POPOV.
He's going to beat you at the Olympics (if you make the team). It would be really great if you post this message on the board...although i admit its unlikely!
POPOV rules...the fastest swimmer in the world...in "organised competition"...in any competition...the greatest sprinter in the history of our sport.
Still think your a good swimmer. And a great ambassador.
cheers
charlie :)

Hello Gary,
The Race Club is a really great idea. Unfortunately I'm too slow for your team (only 1:06 for 100 breast scm and 1:09 long course). I do not train professionally, only 6 swim and 4 dryland workouts per week. Will you also have swim clinics in Europe? I come from Germany and so I have no possibility to come to a clinic in the USA. I'm interested in your workouts? Do you publish some on your website?
So, have a great time and I hope that many of your team will qualify for Athens.

Dear Gary Hall, Jr.
I gave XYZ your 40th birthday message along with those of his personal friends last evening. He thought it was awesome! He really loved it. Thank you!
One of XYZ's swimming partners, ABC, was very jealous when she saw your letter at last night's dinner. You are one of her favorite swimmers of all time.
Again, thank you so much for the time and effort that you took to make XYZ's birthday even better with your letter. It meant a great deal.
Continued success with your career.
Thanks again,
Jane Doe

Hi Gary,
Do you remember me? I'm Ben Gxxx and I'm 12 years old and I have diabetes. My dad and I met you at the diabetes golf tournament in MN this summer. You are going to be my hero for my project in school.
Good luck in Athens!!

Gary,
Thought I'd be cool and sign the message board too. I'm a fan of yours, and its great to finally see a website of your own. It's kind of cool to see you publicize the sport like you do.
You bring a cool spin to the sport. What US Swimming lacks is any element of coolness. The usual cover boy/girl for swimming is the nice picture perfect scene of the "Olympic Dream". While a noble aspiration and something that all swimmers want to strive to - it gets a little (dry after a while).
We need a little more humor, a little more risk, a little more fun, kinda like what you bring. What I fail to understand is why US Swimming doesn't exploit your qualities to bring popularity to the sport.
Some of the current poster boys seem somewhat bland, and lacking in personality. That's why I consider Tom Dolan's retirement a blow to swimming. While either loved or hated becuase of his personality, he was known, he was INTENSE, which many including myself loved about him. We just need some more personality to the sport.
Look at the NFL, who are the big dawgs?? The talented? Sure. The Winners? Defenitely. But also, the ones who generate interest and have a personality whether it be cocky, fun, nice, mean, idiotic. Swimming seems to wanna keep the sport having a crystal clean goody goody almost boring straight edge look and feel to it. If anyone has hung out with swimmers, we are anything but. On an ending note, I wish you the best of luck for Athens, I'd love nothing more than to see you take another trip to the Olympics, show Popov what's up, and make it interesting. Hope to be seeing you at trials!

Gary, its great to see you starting up the Race Club. I am coaching right now in Ottowa, Canada.
I met you once, but it was a life changing experience: you were to come to the Arizona Sports Ranch to see Dan DiToro, to give him a guitar to take to Ian Crocker in Texas. I had never met you before that day and you were a very nice guy it was an honor to meet you that day. I am glad I did.
p.s i am from ireland!!! coached there b4 i went to afox.
thanks Gary

Gary --
First off, I want to say how much I have enjoyed your newsletter. It is a solid mixture of news, opinion, and personality, and I think you are providing a much needed new perspective for the sport. But enough of the a$$kissing and on to the question I have for you.
For my club's monthly newsletter we have a "Same 5 Questions" feature we have been running, and I was wondering if you could take a moment to answer them for us. It would be a tremendous boost for our swimmers to have a
world-class athlete like yourself show himself to be a normal person (or at least as normal as Gary Hall Jr. can be).
Thank you in advance
Gabe Brannan
